Hobo and other animals like him prove the Revolutionary theory that we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain rights. If they are self-evident then I want to see the proof. Nature has given Hobo a right to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. His claws are self-evident of nature’s intent. They both allow him to climb trees to pursue food, or escape from danger and they allow him to defend himself. When he killed his prey, he reduced it to his property. He came and went as he pleased. And he seemed to be happy watching the world and the environment in which he lived and in forming associations with other creatures be they human or feline. Hobo and every other cat so situated are equal. They came equals into this world and as equals shall they go out of it.
To believe in the cause of the Revolution and to understand the law, one must have more than just book knowledge of the concepts. As George Mason stated, “That no free government or the blessings of liberty can be preserved but by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.” Hobo is the link from abstract concepts of liberty and independence to the real thing. He lived his whole life that way.
